Questions you might have
Do I have to become a "Christian"?
The term "Christian" is a very broad term and sadly many who call themselves "Christian" I would say they are not.
Christianity is defined by a core set of beliefs (called doctrines) that all "Christians" supposedly believe. To add or subtract from these doctrines would pervert the "true" definition of Christianity. In fact it is "Christians" who today are questioning these very beliefs. God will be their judge.

I myself do believe that to be called "Christian" every one of these doctrines must be believed. I believe them but I do not like to be lumped in with some that profess to be "Christian". I actually like to be thought of as a
"follower of Jesus" or a "follower of the book".

The answer then would be, if you believe on Jesus as your Saviour and you believe only in Him without knowing about other core beliefs, then I would say you are a true "Christian" or "follower of Jesus".  God is your judge, not me.

The very first believer in Jesus was a thief who was being crucified with Jesus. He professed that he deserved to die for his sins(bad karma). This would be called repentance. Then asked Jesus to "remember him when Jesus came into His kingdom." Showing belief in Jesus.

What did he know of any other basic beliefs or doctrines? Did he know of "virgin birth"? What "good works" or "good karma" did he do? Yet, Jesus said, "Today you will be with me in paradise." No reincarnation or samsara but a promise of rest and salvation "moksha".

But once exposed to the basic beliefs through Bible study or listening to Bible teachers or some other method, I think a "true" believer will readily believe. To reject a basic belief in your soul would I think lead to questions. Now to have difficulty or questions when first exposed to a doctrine would not be unusual or questionable, but to eventually reject a doctrine completely would lead to doubts. I think you would have difficulty worshipping together with us.
Remember, Jesus said His yoke would be light and easy. To me, each doctrine helps completes the puzzle or picture and without one of these core belief we would have a BIG hole in the picture of who Jesus is and what He taught.
Do I need to join any particular "Christian" church or denomination?
No, no denomination in "Christianity" has a better understanding or better way. In fact, some denominations may no longer follow what the Bible teaches. For example, acceptance of gay or lesbian lifestye's is contrary to teachings of Bible. Notice I said acceptance of the lifestyle and did not condemn a gay or lesbian who is struggling with this and trying to be right with God.
Do I have to give up my Hindu beliefs?
Let's separate Indian culture from Hindu beliefs. I can only offer an opinion about something I know little about.
Let me offer examples from what I do know.

There is much in "American" culture that I DO NOT participate in or support because it is contrary to Biblical teachings. I opposed abortion, transgender bathrooms, gay and lesbian rights, evolutionary teaching, humanism teachings, divorce, sex outside of marriage, gambling, alcholic beverages and other things. As you can imagine this makes me unpopular and not all my fellow believers agree with me on all these and I may not object to things they object to. The Holy Spirit(3rd person of Trinity) convicts believers of what is acceptable or not.

I became a "follower of Jesus" at a very young age and had to give up almost nothing. It is much harder for adults who become believers as they are sometimes rejected by spouses, families, friends, may need to give up a job, clubs, church that teaches incorrecty, have a different view of "Christmas", "Easter", "St Patrick's Day" and other things. The Bible says to "count the cost". This means that to become a "follower of Jesus" may cost you much, even your life in some countries, but consider what is at stake, your eternity and perhaps your family.
So you would have to be your judge about how much Indian culture you can continue with and what you may need  to change your mind about.
As for continuing to follow Hinduism while being a "follower of Jesus". I think it may be difficult to totally walk away at first, but I think as you understand the teachings of the Bible and Jesus more and more , I think you will realize that Hinduism and "following Jesus" are quite incompatible. There are few similarites. Eventually you will have to choose one over the other in your heart and soul. God judges by your heart, thoughts and inner most beliefs. God knows what you really believe regardless of words and deeds.
I would think you will eventually find that the teachings of Jesus and the Bible are so superior to the teachings of any other religious system that you will wonder how you could have ever followed that belief system. Remember, Jesus said I DIED FOR YOU, I PAID THE DEBT YOU OWED WITH MY BLODD, I DID EVERYTHING YOU NEEDED, I GIVE IT TO YOU FREELY, YOU NEED TO DO NOTHING BUT BELIEVE.  It's so easy that many reject it because they want to "earn" it, "merit" it, "work" for it.
Jesus says, He wants to RELEASE(moksha) us from that burden because we can never get it right no matter how hard we try. It's a FREE GIFT from God.

Ever see a child receive a gift? They take it joyfully, happily, no questions asked, not thoughts of "working" for it, no ideas if "worthy" or "done enough".

But adults have a harder time receiving a gift. Adults will try to DO something of equal or greater value. Adults struggle to just receive a gift without deserving it.

But God says, "as many as received Jesus, will be given the right to be called the sons of God". John 1:12
God wants to GIVE YOU a gift and this gift is FREE and this gift is Himself, His Son, JESUS. When we "receive" Jesus we become "joint heirs" of all God has and offers. All He asks of us is receive it by faith.
What about atrocities committed by "Christians"?
I'm going to dedicate a page to this:
I can not anticipate every question but I have another site I created some time ago which explains what I believe concerning many things. I think it is a fair explanation of what I believe a "follower of Jesus" should believe. There are many sites that I agree with and many sites that pervert my beliefs. So I can not recommend any particular site.
To "choose" Jesus over everything else is an CRITICAL, DIFFICULT, LIFE CHANGING DECISION and should be carefully examined, researched and thoughtfully considered. There is much at stake.

God Bless You and Help You.
