I am going to extract thoughts from Ravi Zacharias video about who is God because I agree 100% with what he says and Ravi says it far more eloquently than I can.
 

                                                                       According to the BIBLE
GOD is:

• PERSONABLE    - God is a REAL BEING

• MORAL                - God is Holy, Just, Sinless, Righteous

• INFINITE              - God is eternal, has no beginning, has no end, all powerful, all knowing, everywhere present

• FIRST CAUSE     - 1. "no matter how you section out concrete physical reality the reason for that reality is                                               not in itself but in something prior to that. No physical reality explains it own self."

                                          Law of Casuality - "the principal that nothing can happen without being caused"
                               2. "Anytime you see intelligibilty there is intelligence behind it."  

                                         

                                           GOD IS THE SINGLE EXCEPTION TO LAW OF CASUALITY

                                           GOD IS THE UNCAUSED FIRST CAUSE, WITHOUT A PRIOR REASON

                                           GOD IS THE INITIAL INTELLIGENCE BEHIND EVERYTHING
